Reading a rule number
Every rule is numbered chapter.rule: 4.12 is chapter 4, rule 12, and 4.12(b) is part (b) of that rule. Rules count 1, 2, 3 through a whole chapter; the headings inside a chapter don't restart the count.
Chapters come in blocks, so a new game joins its family without changing any other number: 1 to 19 are the rules every game shares, the 20s Hold'em games, the 30s Omaha games, the 40s combination games such as SOHE and Dramaha, the 50s stud, the 60s draw, the 70s mixed games and other games, the 80s tournaments and the 90s home games.
A number never changes meaning and is never reused. A rule added later between 4.11 and 4.12 becomes 4.11A. A withdrawn rule stays as a one-line note that points to what replaced it. Rewording keeps the number; a change of meaning is listed on What changed.
Citing a rule
Write it in full, "Rules of Poker 4.12", and add the edition if it matters: "Rules of Poker 4.12 (2026 edition)". A bare "Rule 12" is easy to confuse with the Poker TDA's own rule numbers.
Every rule has its own link, the chapter page plus the number, such as www.myhomegame.net/rules/betting-action.html#4.12. The short form www.myhomegame.net/rules/#4.12 works too and opens the right page. The "Copy link" button beside each rule copies its link.
Reusing the rules
You may copy, share, adapt and reuse the Rules of Poker, in your own house rules or anywhere else, under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license (CC BY 4.0). The condition is credit: name MyHomeGame as the author, link to the rules, name the license, and say if you changed anything. For example:
From Rules of Poker, 2026 edition, by MyHomeGame (www.myhomegame.net/rules/), CC BY 4.0. Shortened for our game.
The license covers this rulebook's own wording. The rulebooks named in each Source line belong to their publishers; we link to them rather than copy them.
Corrections
Every rule has a "Suggest a correction" link, which opens an email with the rule number in the subject, or write to support@myhomegame.net. A correction that changes what a rule means is listed on What changed.
